Susan celebrated her 45th birthday in Fairbanks with John, the kids, and friends Dan O'Neill and Sarah Campbell on May 28, 2004. Myles and Tiffany honored their mother with a homemade, handmade, happy birthday poster using candy bars in their wrappers as rebuses. The sign reads as follows (with candy bars' names italicized):

Look (candy bar)
Dear Mama,
Hey. We were thinking of giving you a diamond ring (pop), 100 Grand, or a Big Red (gum) convertible, but everyone knows that you'd like a Hershey bar better. Seriously, we love you. Although you've been through a Rocky Road, we love you. You've opened our eyes to cities like New York (peppermint patty) and San Francisco, we love you. You've always been there for us, you're a real Life Saver, we love you. Even though you married that corny Big Hunk, Papa, we love you. We can always fool around with your giggles and Snickers. No matter what the reason, we will always love you. Hugs and Kisses.

"I got the idea form a poster from a magazine," Tiffany said. "But Myles and I came up with our own words and choice of candy bars."
"I've never been given anything that creative for my birthday before," Susan said. "Luckily I insisted on taking a picture of the poster right away, because, as you can imagine, the kids had stripped that poster bare of its candy before the night way over."
